    Description

    Here is a souvenir ceramic cowboy hat from R.C.A.F Station Claresholm in southern Alberta. The Stetson is 6 inches long by 5 ¼ inches wide. It was made by Hycroft of Medicine Hat in 1958. The Stetson is in great condition. RCAF Station Claresholm was opened 9 June 1941 as a British Commonwealth Air Training base and closed on 30 March 1945. Claresholm was placed on care and maintenance status until reactivated in 1951 as a NATO training centre run by No. 3 Flying Training School (flying Harvards). The station closed again in 1958 when the school was relocated to Gimli Manitoba.
